Kochi: A frequent flyer has approached the Kerala High Court demanding
that a doctor should be made available on board all flights.
The petition was filed by TGN Kumar of Vennala here following his own experience in one of the journeys. While the flight was on air, he suffered health problems but there was no trained crew or doctors aboard to attend to him. He escaped only because it was a minor problem, the petition said.
He also points out that he has witnessed other passengers suffering from major health problems while on board flights. In such instances, their health problems could not be attended due to the unavailability of trained crew and doctors in the flight. On June 12th, the petitioner filed a representation to the secretary of Ministry of Civil Aviation and to Director General of Civil Aviation seeking measures to at least impart training to the crew but no action was taken, it is alleged.
Making a doctor available on flights is one of the five measures sought by the petitioner for improving passengers' travel experiences. Another main demand of the petitioner is to provide reservation for women travelling alone.
