AAI finds site near Kandaghat suitable for larger airport

Shimla: With preliminary report prepared by Airports Authority of India (AAI) suggesting the site identified near Kandaghat in Solan feasible for construction of a bigger airport, officials shall be visiting the site this week to work out modalities before preparing a final report. Poor air connectivity and missing international airport had kept high-end foreign tourists away from the state.


According to sources in state tourism and civil aviation department, though preliminary report of AAI has found the site near Kandaghat feasible for construction of a larger airport, there are many technicalities involved which need to be addressed before the final report is readied. According to requirements, around 3,500 bighas land is needed for the proposed international airport while at present, only around 1,200 bighas are available, sources said.
