Intercity air service before Vibrant

Gandhinagar: After a gap of almost three years and one failed attempt, the intercity flight service in the state is all set to take off right before the upcoming mega show of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit (VGGIS) scheduled to be held in January 2015. The service will link eight major cities - Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Junagadh and Mehsana.

Government sources said the appointment of a service provider was in the final stages. To promote intercity aircraft service, the state government will provide Viability Gap Funding (VGF) worth Rs 11 crore.


"Deccan Airlines, Ventura AirConnect, Velvet Air and Maritime Energy Heli Air Services Pvt Ltd have participated in the final bid called by the state civil aviation department. The financial and technical scrutiny of these four bidders is underway. The deal is likely to be finalized before Diwali. The chosen company will then have to the service at eight major airports in the state before January 2015,'' said government sources.
