Man, who deserted wife, infant at airport, returns

Dubai: The husband of a European woman of Pakistani origin — who had left her and their five-month-old infant stranded at the Dubai International Airport for two days following a tiff between them — returned to the UAE on Monday. The husband reportedly told the police that he went to India, his home country, on his own as he married the woman and had a child with her without his family’s knowledge.

Khaleej Times had reported about the woman’s plight last Friday, when her husband deserted her and their infant at the airport on the pretext of going for some ticketing procedures.

A delegation from the Human Rights department of the Dubai Police escorted the husband to the hotel where his wife and infant were put up following police intervention on finding them in a state of fatigue. Dr Mohammed Al Murr, Director of Human Rights department, said the husband expressed “regret” about what he did and took an undertaking that he would take care of his wife and infant.

Lieutenant Ali Al Shihi, Director of the Follow-up department, said the husband claimed he was “scared” of his family as they did not know about his marriage to the woman, who is a British national of Pakistani origin. He recently decided to tell his family and was planning to travel to India for this purpose. His wife flew down to Dubai from Britain a few days ago and insisted on accompanying him to India. This led to a tiff between them.
