Delhi meet on Tripura’s demand for more flights

Agartala: State transport secretary Samarjit Bhowmik on Friday said Tripura has asked for 16 aircraft in the Agartala sector till the railways finish its broad gauge project in 2017.

The state government raised the demand at a meeting with airlines companies in New Delhi. Tripura's resident commissioner in the national capital, J K Sinha, was also present at the meeting.

To study the feasibility of introducing more aircraft in the Agartala sector, the Union civil aviation ministry sought monthly flight occupancy data from Tripura. More than eight lakh people travel from Agartala to Guwahati, Imphal, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad every year. Air traffic has been heavy because of lack of other means of transport.
