Public hearing on Mopa EIA report on Feb 1

The government has speeded up the exercise pertaining to the proposed International Greenfield Airport coming up at Mopa in Pernem Taluka, with the  North Goa collectorate making all arrangements to hold the public hearing on the environmental impact assessment  study report for the airport at the proposed site on February 1 from 10.30 a.m. onwards. A crowd of around 3,000 people is expected to attend the crucial hearing.

North Goa collector and district magistrate Nila Mohanan, who visited the site of the proposed airport on January 14, told The Navhind Times that the public hearing will be conducted by her on the instruction of  Chief Secretary Keval Sharma.
“The environmental impact assessment study for the airport was carried out by Engineers India Ltd, a government of India undertaking, as directed by the department of civil aviation,” she added, informing that after the EIA study report reached the Goa State Pollution Control Board, it requested the government to hold a public hearing.
“I will be in-charge of holding the public hearing for which public notice has already been issued some two weeks back,” Mohanan said, stating that the desiring people/stakeholders have already been asked to submit their comments including suggestions and objections in writing, as also informed to look at the executive summary of the EIA study report.
