Tiruchi: Airports Authority of India (AAI) has proposed modification of the Security Hold Area in Tiruchi international airport to avoid congestion and increase passenger seating capacity.
Space constraint in the terminal building, especially in the Security Hold Area because of more passenger movements, had prompted the AAI to address the issue, Airport Director B.C.H. Negi said. Once modified, the Security Hold Area would accommodate around 350 passengers, instead of its existing capacity to hold 200 passengers.
Speaking at the Republic Day celebrations at the airport here on Monday, Mr. Negi said there was a definite upward trend in the number of passengers and the volume of cargo handled at Tiruchi airport this financial year.
Keeping this in mind, many development and expansion projects were undertaken to cater to the growth potential of the Tiruchi airport which was a fast-growing airport not only in the Southern region but also in the entire country.
