SpiceJet does a flip-flop again, puts off flight services at Hubballi airport

Hubballi:  SpiceJet's plan to resume services from the Hubballi airport will not take wing on Friday as promised. Doing a volte face on its announcement that it would resume flights to Bengaluru and Delhi via Mumbai from the city on January 16, the airline has again postponed its services indefinitely - its third since last year. This time, it has blamed technical reasons for the delay in resuming flights from the airport.

Flight services from here were halted last August when the airport was shut down for renovation.

SpiceJet had announced resumption of its services twice earlier - in October and December 2014, but neither of the times did it go through with its plan. Sources say operational difficulties threw a spanner in the airline's works. Shivanand Benal, director of Hubballi airport, says SpiceJet had been given the go-ahead to operate two flights to Bangalore and Delhi via Mumbai.
