SpiceJet yet to pay Rs 18 crore dues to Mumbai airport operator

Mumbai:  Ailing low-cost carrier SpiceJet recently faced fresh trouble over non-payment of dues to Mumbai airport. The issue has been resolved for now with the airline agreeing to pay a fraction of the pending sum.

"The airline owes Rs 20 crore payable towards rentals and landing, and parking charges. The airport operator took up the matter with the airline earlier this week and sought payment of Rs 2 crore failing which the airline would have been put on cash and carry," said a source. The issue was resolved after the airline agreed to pay Rs 2 crore immediately, the source added.

The backlog payment has to be cleared in the first week of February.
A SpiceJet spokesperson said the issues over payment of dues have been sorted out between the airline and airport operator.
