AI mulling direct flights to Madrid, Amsterdam

Buoyed by the success of its flights to Milan and Rome, state-owned Air India is actively considering introducing direct flights to Madrid and Amsterdam from Delhi. The airline will deploy B787 Dreamliner airplanes on the two routes.

“Apart from Madrid and Amsterdam, many other routes are also under evaluation.
We are studying the commercial viability of all key routes where we are not flying,” a senior Air India official said.

Air India CMD Rohit Nandan was recently in Madrid to evaluate demand and commercial viability of launching the return flight on the Delhi-Madrid-Barcelona sector. In a move that would give a boost to tourist traffic in the India-Spain sector, the government is also considering a proposal to extend e-visa facility to Spain also.
