Arunachal pleads Centre for early approval of Hollongi airport

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Civil Aviation Minister Thangwang Wangham has pleaded the Centre to accord ‘in principal approval’ of the Greenfield Airport project at Hollongi so that the Airport Authority of India (AAI) could process the DPR for Public Investment Board (PIB) clearance and sanction so that fund could be released in this fiscal.

Wangham who attended the meeting of all North Eastern states’ civil aviation ministers at Guwahati on Friday, made the plea to union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati to approve the project at the earliest considering the serious surface communication bottleneck of the state, a communiqué said here today.

The minister also requested ministry for reconsideration and retention of earlier project master plan for Airbus–321 type of aircraft operation instead of present proposed ATR operation. He had also drawn the attention of the union minister on the proposed Greenfield Airport at Tawang and requested for a detailed survey of the existing site by AAl at the earliest.

He also put forward a new proposal for construction of Advanced Landing Grounds at two district headquarters – Koloriang and Anini bordering China, considering the remote and inaccessible locations, the communiqué said.
