Aviation Varsity: Deshpande Plans to Meet Parrikar

Bengaluru: The state government plans to take up the issue of establishing an aviation university in Bengaluru with the Union Ministry of Defence, Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande said here on Saturday.

A proposal on such a university had been made by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
Deshpande said he had written to the Union Human Resources Department and the Defence Ministry and added that he planned to meet Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to discuss the issue.

After releasing a booklet highlighting the achievements in the higher education sector in the past 20 months, the minister told reporters, “The city is eligible to have an aviation university as there are many aviation-related industries functioning here.”

Noting that former HAL chairman R K Tyagi had sent a proposal to the state government in this regard, he said the chief minister was also keen on it. He said HAL has also shown interest in establishing a aviation skills development institute in the city.
