Bhubaneswar: To keep the aerial approach to the Biju Patnaik airport free of birds, authorities have appointed an expert team to find a solution to the winged menace.
They have also decided to buy zone guns to scare away the feathered species.
Last year, the airport reported nine bird-hit incidents.
To avoid the recurrence of such incidents, the airport authorities have appointed an agency to identify the bird species and also find a solution to the problem.
An official of the air traffic control (ATC) department of the airport said they would buy zone guns that can produce sounds similar to the distress sound of some these birds. The sound will make them fly away.
"We may also procure laser guns to keep them away. However, we will wait for the report of the experts," he said.
The expert team constituted by the agency consists of ornithologists and wildlife biologists.
