Ebola Not Found on Detained Girl

Kochi: Brushing aside all apprehensions, the blood samples of the 10-year-old girl who arrived at Cochin international airport and was suspected of having possible Ebola infection was found to be negative.

Dr Amar Fettle, state nodal officer for Ebola, said that the results turned negative and there was nothing to panic.

“The girl did not have any immediate ailments. She came along with her mother for the latter’s treatment in a private hospital. The girl had some problems. Hence, they decided that she would also be consulted here. That’s why they took the girl along with her mother,” he said.

The girl was detained at Cochin International Airport under suspicion of a possible Ebola infection two days ago.

She was coming from Dubai via an Emirates flight. After arriving at the airport, she showed some symptoms which were included in the symptoms as per the guidelines issued.

By following the standard protocol, she was admitted to the Ernakulam General Hospital for confirmation and her blood samples were sent to the National Centre for Disease Control, New Delhi. The official had earlier said that they quarantined the girl as she came from Nigeria which was one among the four Ebola-infected countries.
