Evening flights likely at Srinagar Airport

Srinagar: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is likely to extend flight schedules at Srinagar Airport up to 10 pm as the Indian Air Force has approved operation of evening flights.
The evening flights at Srinagar Airport has been a long pending demand of stakeholders particularly tourism players who have time and again reiterated their demand for late evening flights to Kashmir in order to boost tourism.

Sources informed Greater Kashmir that Indian Air Force has already approved the operation of evening flights and after BJP-led government took over the government at Centre, the Defence Ministry officials have asked the officials of IAF and AAI to work out modalities to install lighting facilities and prepare runways to host night flights.
“It is highly likely that soon evening flights will start operating from Srinagar Airport,” said a senior officer of AAI here.
J&K has four airfields – one each in Jammu and Leh, and two in Kashmir including the Srinagar Airport. But all the airports are controlled by Indian Air Force.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Shailendra Kumar said they have already taken up the issue with AAI of extending flight timing and are hopeful that soon they would consider the plea.
