Farm house weddings pose threat to flights landing at IGI airport

New Delhi: The farm house weddings in Delhi are becoming a major security concern for the flights taking off and landing at the Indira Gandhi International airport as pilots have been reporting incidents of vision distraction due to laser beams.

Delhi Police has issued a prohibitory order with strict instructions against the use of laser beams in the celebration of marriages, parties and different events held in the farm houses, banquet halls, hotels and restaurants in the area around IGI airport and Palam.

The Air Traffic Control of IGI Airport, has reported incidents of vision distraction of the pilots by laser beam while landing aircrafts, which is not only a source of nuisance but also may cause danger to the safety and security of passengers/crew and the aircrafts. Delhi Police says that a number of farm houses, banquets, hotels and restaurants etc. have come up in and around the jurisdiction of IGI Airport wherein lot of lights including laser beams are used on celebration of marriages, parties and different events held therein, which is a source of nuisance in general and cause of vision distraction to the pilots in particular. And, at present there are no rules and regulations to regulate, the use of laser beams especially in open during night hours.
