Intra-state air carrier gets an operator

Lucknow:  Waiting for an operator for long, there is ray of hope for UP Tourism's intra-state air carrier service. A Kolkata-based unscheduled operator, North East Shuttle, has come out with the proposal to get operational the service which will connect Lucknow with other major cities of the state.

While the tourism department officials are now hopeful that the service which was to be launched in October last year will finally be kicked off, the high air fare quoted in the proposal has come as a dampener.
North East Shuttle has reportedly quoted a fare ranging between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 for ferrying passengers from Lucknow to cities like Agra, Varanasi and Allahabad.

Department officials say that the feasibility of the ambitious project, which is under direct monitoring of the chief minister officer, would be subjected to the cost of flying within the state. When contacted special secretary (tourism) Shashank Vikram confirmed that the air fare would be in the range of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000. ``For anything below that, it is not feasible for an unscheduled airlines to operate. We are keeping our fingers crossed,'' he said.
