Land crunch keeps proposed airports grounded

Jaipur: Development of airports at Kota and Kishangarh which was a major poll plank during assembly and general elections is still on paper. Land which was to be handed over to Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the construction has not been acquired by the state government so far.

Minister of state for civil aviation, Mahesh Sharma highlighted that, 14 acre of land for Kota airport and an additional 69 acre of land for Kishangarh airport has not been released from the state.
"AAI requested the Rajasthan government for land...free of cost and free from all encumbrances. State government is yet to handover it"

At Kishangarh, the foundation stone was laid in September 2013 but work has been pending since then. "There is a procedure that we need to follow for land acquisition. Gazette notification has been issued few days back and we have invited objections. Process will be completed soon" said collector, Arushi Ajey Malik.
