Police to regulate drone use

Bucking the trend, the city police have decided against banning the use of camera-fitted drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), but plan to strengthen regulations regarding their use.

Given the safety apprehensions associated with them, the Mumbai police and Chennai police have banned drones.
The city police have asked those intending to use camera-fitted drones to apply for permission, mentioning details of the equipment and purpose.

“Permission for using drones is being given on a case by case basis. We are examining all aspects, including the security angle before giving a go-ahead,” Hyderabad Commissioner M. Mahendar Reddy said when asked about plans to ban drones in city.

Cyberabad Commissioner C.V. Anand said they had not received any complaints about drone misuse. “I will discuss the matter with other officials and take a decision in this regard,” Mr. Anand said.
