Why did Defence Minister not announce dates for 2017 edition?

Bangalore: A tradition was broken here at Aero India 2015 on Wednesday, which only gave more fuel to the fears that the premier Indian air show, hosted by Bengaluru, would be shifted to some other venue.

It has been a tradition so far that the defence minister officially announces the dates of the next Aero India, which would be held in 2017, at the end of his address. But this time, no dates were announced by defence minister Manohar Parrikar.

He however chose to play it down, saying: "I see no reason to shift it (Aero India)...and I don't believe in such things like shifting the venue to Goa just because I hail from there."

Parrikar said he had asked officials from the Defence Exhibition Organisations (DEO), which is the prime organiser of Aero India, and the Indian Air Force (IAF) on what would be their requirements for the next Aero India. "They have told me that there are space constraints."

Space constraints had been the main problem with continuing to hold Aero India at the Air Force Station Yelahanka.
