Bhubaneswar: Indigo may be the first airline to start international operations from Biju Patnaik Airport here. The airport authorities on Wednesday held discussions with the airline officials in this regard.
Official sources said civil aviation ministry had asked the airport authorities to negotiate with domestic carriers for international operations, in case no international carrier was ready to run flights. Indigo, which runs 11 domestic flights for the city, can dedicate at least one for international operations, the sources added.
"This is an encouraging development. Once the airline gives its schedule, we will send it to the Airports Authority of India," said airport director Sharad Kumar.
