CISF men bust gang of flying thieves, gang could be a part of larger network

New Delhi: Nationwide crackdown on thieves by the Central Industrial Police Force (CISF), which is handling airport security, has revealed that a massive network of gangs is responsible for over a dozen high-profile thefts at major airports recently.

According to the CISF, the arrest of three persons after an intensive observation and analysis of hundreds of thefts has helped the force gather intelligence about these gangs. Several members of these gangs are still roaming freely, a CISF officer said, adding they doubt the role of insiders in many cases.
According to sources, these gangs have so far committed over 100 thefts in airports, including those in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai. The figure, CISF sources said, could go up further as several officers are analysing the cases coming up in large numbers.
Shockingly, CISF sources said members of such gangs are able to fool Customs officials too. The force recently handed over five members of such gangs to the local police in Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
In one of the modi operandorum, the accused would board flights with only registered baggage and flee with baggage of other passengers after reaching the destination airport.
