India’s first private airport to start operations soon

India's first private airport promoted by Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Ltd (BAPL) and Singapore's Changi Airport is likely to be operational by 14 April, 2015.
The Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport has been constructed at Andal in Durgapur sub-division, which is 25 km from Asansol and 15 km from Durgapur in West Bengal.

The West Bengal government has 1.2% stake in BAPL. Changi Airport will be the single largest shareholder in the airport.
The airport will have a 5,750m2 passenger terminal building with a capacity of 1 million passengers per annum. This number can be further expanded to 2.5 million passengers eventually.
It will have six check-in counters with Common Use Terminal equipment (CUTE) in the departure lounge and two baggage conveyor belts at the arrival hall. Airports Authority of India (AAI) recently completed the installation of the navigational system at the facility.
