Kozhikode: In the wake of conflicting and ambiguous reports appearing in a section of the media, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has clarified that the partial shutdown of the Calicut International Airport for 15 months will begin only on June 1.
The partial shutdown is for strengthening and re-carpeting the runway, to ensure safety of the flights, Calicut Airport Director K. Peter Abraham said here in a communication on Thursday.
He said the runway would be closed only from noon to 8 p.m. during the shutdown period. The airport would function with flights landing and taking off as usual during the rest of the time.
However, he said that the Boeing B-747 and B-777, Airbus A-330, and other wide-bodied aircrafts under Code-E would not be allowed to operate temporarily from May 1.
