Rio raises Nagaland’s poor air connectivity issue in Parliament

Dimapur: Nagaland’s Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio addressing Zero Hour during the budget session highlighted the problem of poor air connectivity in Nagaland and the North Eastern region.
A statement issued by Abu Metha stated that the MP had also taken up the matter with the Civil Aviation ministry and the Prime Minister.

During the Zero Hour, Rio informed the house that Dimapur with an operational airport since 1972 has only five flights in operation. He also lamented that even these five flights have to be shared with Dibrugarh in Assam. In November 2013, Rio said Air India had introduced Monday flight service. However, the same was discontinued, he added.
With Air India being the only airline operating in Dimapur, Rio urged upon the civil aviation ministry to ensure that private airlines also extend their services to Dimapur as part of their social responsibility in the difficult areas.
