Airport authorities have sought another Rs. 500 crore for the renovation of the old terminals and installing other facilities.
The additional funds have been sought in order to renovate the old domestic terminal, integrating the old and new international terminals, installation of travelator and construction of multi-level car parking.
Airport director Deepak Shastri said, “A few days ago, there was a discussion where we sought Rs. 500 crore for creating these facilities. Obviously, we have not got the sanction as yet. It is not clear when the privatisation process will be complete and it has already been delayed. We want to at least create these facilities for passengers [in the interim].”
The Chennai airport modernisation project began in 2008 with an original estimate of Rs. 1,808 crore. This was later revised to Rs. 2,015 crore.
