SpiceJet turmoil is far from over

Low-cost airline SpiceJet’s woes do not seem to be over as yet. Wilmington Trust SP Services (Dublin), one of the two Irish leasing firms that took the airline to court and won the case in its favour, has also initiated proceedings in a London court for taking back their aircraft.

The Delhi High Court had on Thursday directed the aviation regulator directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) to deregister six Boeing aircraft leased to SpiceJet on the pleas of the two leasing firms.

“Since the aircraft lease agreement was executed in London the case has been filed in a court there,” a person familiar with the development said.

Sources said the airline's new promoter Ajay Singh is trying to negotiate with the leasing company for an amicable settlement.
