3 farmers hold up airport project

Bareilly: After a decade-long wait, work for the civilian airport is likely to resume soon. The airport will come up in Bareilly near Ahmednagar village at Pilibhit bypass, next to the Indian Air Force's Trishul airport.
Of the 82 farmers who own land where the new civil airport is set to come up, 79 farmers have already given their consent to give their land to the district authorities for the project. Three farmers are yet to give their consent. The last date is Sunday. According to Manish Kumar Nahar, SDM, Sadar and special land acquisition officer, if the remaining three farmers fail to give their consent for the project till Sunday, the district authorities will lodge a case against them under section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act. "With the mutual consent of farmers and district authorities, it was decided that compensation to farmers would be paid not less than double the existing circle rate of the land. However, I do not know why these three farmers are delaying the project as we are offering a good amount as compensation. If they do not give their consent by Sunday, we will take action by registering a case under section 4 of Land Acquisition Act," he said. He added that the land has been earmarked for the project and it is mandatory for farmers to hand over the land. 04/04/15 Ankit Yadav/Times of India
