International airport registers growth in traffic

Visakhapatnam: Notwithstanding cyclone Hudhud, which had caused extensive damage to the terminal building and equipment, and brought operations to a standstill for quite a few weeks, the Visakhapatnam International Airport has registered a growth both in domestic and international traffic during the just concluded financial year.

The total traffic (domestic and international), which was 10.13 lakh during 2013-14, has gone up to 11 lakh during 2014-15. The total number of international passengers, which was 54,000 during the 2013-14 fiscal, has increased marginally to 59,179 this year, according to airport Director C. Pattabhi.

Air India is connecting Visakhapatnam to Port Blair twice a week with effect from April 9. IndiGo recently launched a daily flight from Ahmedabad to Visakhapatnam via Hyderabad in the mornings. The same flight operates to Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram.
