Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government along with Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company (GUJSAIL) is developing an airstrip at Ankleshwar to develop a maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) hub and air cargo facility there. Through the cargo airport, the government aims to handle 10% of the country's 2.95 lakh metric tons of air cargo.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of Gujarat Aero Conclave 2015 here on Wednesday, Baman Mehta, CEO, Darashaw and Co Pvt Ltd said, "In the first phase, the MRO hub will be ready in the next two years. In the second phase, the airport will be set up which will focus on cargo handling. We are targeting 10% of the air cargo of the country from Ankleshwar airport."
Mumbai-based Darashaw and Co Pvt Ltd is handling the Ankleshwar MRO and greenfield airport project, which is being developed in public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
