It will bring improvement in operational efficiency of Air Traffic Management, safety of aircraft operations, fuel efficiency and savings in operating cost for airlines, and reduction in pilot/controller workload, Mr SS Bhaduri, regional executive director, Airport Authority of India, told newsmen Friday afternoon at the airport’s ATC tower. This system has been successfully installed and operationalised from yesterday, said Mr Bhaduri.
From now no. 4 Area Control Centre will operate instead of no. 12 Area Control Centre after surveillance capacity of the FIR has been increased.
The project incorporates state-of-the-art integrated Air Traffic System automation system, integration of multiple radar and ADS-B sensors, airspace restructuring with multiple sectors and remote operation of VHF from Kolkata using IP-based voice communication control system.
