Maharashtra mulls new aviation policy for better connectivity

Nashik:  The state government is planning to introduce a new aviation policy in a bid to promote regional air connectivity soon. Small airline operators would get compensation if the air passenger occupancy is below 75% and the landing and parking rates at the airport terminals would be minimized.

Additional chief secretary (general administration department) P S Meena said the state government is mulling regional air connectivity across important cities, including Nashik, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nanded, Solapur and Kolhapur.

"Most airports in the state are owned by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company. Hence, we are in the process of bringing in a new aviation policy, which is likely to be introduced in the next two-three months. The small airline operators providing air services within the state are to be given various sops and concessions to make it viable for them to operate regional flights," he said during a conference of airline operators at the airport terminal building at Ozar.
