Gaya: Night landing facility was revived at the Gaya International
airport on Saturday following fresh installation of devices at nearby
hill tops to facilitate landing and take off during night hours.
Chartered planes and special Haj flights are likely to benefit from this
facility as the regular flights operating from the airport are
generally scheduled for day time.
Airport director Dilip Kumsr confirmed the revival of the facility. The director also said that he has requested SSP Manu Maharaj to ensure safety of the devices as frequent thefts have adversely affected the reputation of the airport.
Night landing facility was started at the airport in February, 2008 during the visit of the then President Pratibha Patel. Since then the facility has remained mostly non functional due to frequent theft of night vision devices including batteries and solar plates installed at the nearby hillocks.
