Vijayawada: The Krishna district administration is planning to divert the Eluru canal to make way for the expansion of Gannavaram airport , Collector Babu A. said on Wednesday.
Addressing a roundtable on ‘smart cities and inclusion’ here on Wednesday, the Collector said that the Eluru Canal would be a hurdle in airport expansion as a 2.5 km stretch of the canal passes through Chinna Avutupalli, Buddavaram, Allapuram villages that had been identified in the airport expansion project. So plans were afoot to divert it by digging up a new canal, he said.
He said that the government has plans to acquire land for expansion of Gannavaram airport under land pooling scheme (LPS). The government was expected to release a GO shortly to acquire 500 acres, he said.
