AI to operate Surat-Delhi flights daily from Feb 1

Surat: In a clear sign of victory for Diamond City residents, Air India (AI) on Friday decided to operate morning flights between Surat and Delhi on a daily basis from February 1. Recently, AI had slashed the frequency of its morning flights from six to four days a week till January 31.
The decision had invited widespread criticism from Surat Airport Action Committee and frequent flyers for meting out a step-motherly treatment to the Diamond City.

Sources said Navsari MP C R Paatil and Surat MP Darshana Jardosh were in New Delhi on Friday to meet Union minister of state for civil aviation Mahesh Sharma and Air India chairman Ashwani Lohani to urge them to revoke the decision.
"We strongly represented the case to the minister and the AI chairman and asked them not to slash the morning flight frequency between Surat and Delhi. When AI is getting more than 80 per cent passenger load for the flight on this sector, the decision is uncalled for. The AI chairman said they will be operating daily morning flights from February 1," said Navsari MP CR Paatil.
