Ahmedabad: If you are planning to visit Dubai over next few days, be ready to shell out extra for air tickets. Heavy traffic on the Ahmedabad-Dubai route, following the movement of NRGs in large numbers and the Dubai Shopping Festival has led to a spike in air fares.
On a regular basis, a one-way ticket for a single person from Ahmedabad to Dubai costs around Rs 8,000 for a non-stop flight. Currently, the prices of non-stop flights have surged to beyond Rs 25,000 for a one-way ticket.
Tour operators and travel agents claim that the rush for the Dubai Shopping Festival has led to the high fares as airlines are running out of seats. "Airlines operate on dynamic pricing. The fewer the tickets, the more the fare. This is what is happening now. More than 95% of international flights from Ahmedabad operate to and from destinations in the UAE. On average, there are over 50,000 passengers from Gujarat to Dubai every week," said a city-based travel agent.
