Siliguri: S Bhaduri, the Eastern Regional Director of the Airport Authority of India (AII), today laid the foundation stone for a new building at Bagdogra in order to modify the terminal building to increase the size of the security hold area.
He said the total cost will be around Rs4.7 crore and the extension is being undertaken looking at passenger footfalls, which is increasing day-by-day given the rising number of flights. "We have requested the state government to provide 78 acres of land in Bagdogra for the new terminal, but the government agreed to provide 58 acres only and that too has not been handed over. Hence, to overcome the crisis we have decided to extend the terminal," said the official.
