Nainital: Fed up of numerous incidents of wild boars, hares, deer and other animals straying into the runway and even digging up the area, thereby endangering aircraft safety, authorities at Pantnagar airport have sought help from forest department officials to tackle the menace. The forest department is now using measures such as bursting crackers to keep the animals away from the airport.
N Subramaniam, the director of the Pantnagar airport said, "We sought help from the forest department to keep off the wild animals from the airport. Officials are helping us do that."
In 2013, around 16 hectares of forest land was transferred for the expansion of the airport. Wild boars, dogs, cattle and monkeys often stray into the aircraft operating area and hares even dug burrows. This could pose a threat to the aircraft and disrupt flight operations.
