Mumbai: From his window seat, an Air India passenger spotted three white, triangular flying objects below the plane about 10 minutes before the aircraft touched down at Mumbai airport on Tuesday. With this report, the mystery of suspected hang- or paragliders deepened as two weeks in a row, these objects have been spotted flying at locations close to the airports at Santacruz and Juhu.
On January 13, a Pawan Hans pilot spotted six paraglider-like objects flying north of Juhu airport in a 3-1-2 formation as he was preparing to take off.
The AI passenger, who wishes to remain unnamed, saw the flying objects as Delhi-Mumbai flight AI865 had begun its descent into Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon. Since the flyer was at a higher altitude than the objects, he could see only the canopies, and could not make out whether they were manned or unmanned, or motorized.
He notified security agencies and appealed to them to take the matter seriously as he was sure they were not balloons.
"I saw them when the plane was near Mumbai, about to land, and the pilot had instructed the cabin crew to go to their stations for landing. The objects were huge and were at quite a height from the ground. They were not balloons or kites that kids fly," he said. "From the top view I had, they looked like hang-gliders/motorized hang-gliders. They were triangular, white in colour and were in a tight (triangular) formation. My guess is that they were about 800-900m below the plane. I saw them at around 2.40-2.45pm and the flight landed around 2.55pm," he added.
