Jet Airways grounds flights from Bhavnagar, Porbandar

Hyderabad: At a time when central and state governments are trying to promote regional connectivity, two airports in Gujarat are set to lose their place on aviation map of India from March 27 because of "viability and operational" issues.

Jet Airways is the only airline which operates a flight each out of Bhavnagar and Porbandar airports to Mumbai. The airline has decided to suspend operations during summer schedule from March 27 to October 29.
"Jet Airways has undertaken a thorough evaluation of its network with a clear focus on route viability and profitability. As a result, the airline is suspending operations to/from Bhavnagar, Diu and Porbandar with from March 27," said Jet Airways spokesperson.
The suspension of the sole flight service is expected to affect passengers, especially business travellers. "This has come as a surprise to me. This flight used to be always full. Two main ports -- Alang and Pipavav -- are close to Bhavnagar and with closure of this flight, industrialists will suffer the maximum," said B V Mehta, executive director, Solvent Extractors' Association of India.
