Amritsar: The proposed revamping of the runway of Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport with an investment of Rs 100 crore may run into cost escalation as it has been withheld for not getting certain technical approvals.
It has been put on hold due to technical reasons and was long overdue as the existing strip had outlived its life.
Venkateshwar Rao, director, Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, said: “They are yet to receive certain approvals and re-scheduling of nocturnal flights is yet to be implemented.”
Commencement of the civil work for the re-laying of the runway would stop landing and take-off of all flights at the airport for at least 10 months.
The overhauling is due for a long time and it will make the airport fit to accommodate all big aircraft being used in the world.
