Srinagar Airport area to be doubled for more flight operations

Srinagar: The airport authority is going to expand the area of the Srinagar International Airport (SIA) in order to accommodate more flights in future.
An official said that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has invited the tenders for the appointment of Project Management Consultant to undertake the project.
“The tenders have been recently called by the DGCA to choose the Project Management Consultants in New Delhi. Now it will be seen that which consultancy will be chosen to take up the project in order to complete it on speedy basis?” the official said.

He added the area of the SIA which is around 16,700 square metres will be expanded by additional 33,000 square metres.
“It will be expanded on the International Departure side of the airport. The area to be expanded has been fixed as 33,000 sqmtrs. It will accommodate scores of new flights as the airport will have two new additional aircraft stands increasing their overall number to 11. The additional flights will include night flights as well for which the process of permission is being initiated by the government,” the official said.
The expansion as per the official will handle the traffic to the tune of above 5 million passengers per annum in future.
