Lucknow: The new aviation policy cleared by the Centre has flyers in the city in high spirits. Take the case of Akash Kumar, a lawyer at a private company, who's family is based in Delhi. "I feel like a direct beneficiary of a welfare scheme after hearing about government's decision to keep air fares below Rs 2,500, for destinations that are an hour apart," he said.
Akash says that earlier visiting his family every week was not possible as the cost of air travel proved to be costly and train tickets were not available all the time. Sometimes he had to postpone his plans because of delayed train timings.
Manoj Dixit, an academician, said the reduced cost of air travel between Lucknow and New Delhi would increase work efficiency. "People would save a lot of time and money. A number of people travel between Lucknow and Delhi for official purposes and would surely be do better because of this changed policy," he said. City-based tour operator Prateek Hira said that the addition of flights between regional airports would boost tourism. "The capping of prices of air tickets for half-an-hour journeys (which won't cost more than Rs 1,200) would allow us to add lesser known destinations to packages. It appears that a connecting flight between Varanasi and Agra will may soon be a reality," he said.
