New Delhi: AirAsia India and Vistara have called for complete abolition of the 5/20 rule despite the Centre’s move to ease international flying norms to increase air travel.
“We are encouraged with an established policy to promote overall growth in the aviation sector. We would like an unconditional removal of the 5/20 rule,” said Vistara CEO Phee Teik Yeoh.
According to the new rules, newer airlines need to deploy 20 aircraft or 20 per cent of the total fleet size, whichever is higher, on domestic routes in order to secure international flying rights. AirAsia India CEO-designate Amar Abrol said, “A 0/0 or a 0/10 would have been more than welcome. We will continue to push the government for that. But we will go ahead with our business plans as per the new policy.”
