Hyderabad: Travellers boarding SpiceJet flights from Hyderabad may no longer need to wait in queue for boarding pass. The airliner on Friday launched smart check-in facility using Near Field Communication (NFC) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
Travellers booking ticket from SpiceJet mobile app will have to open the app and touch the mobile device on the Near Field Communication check-in posters available at the airport to get their boarding passes on their smartphones. As they walk towards the check-in area, they will receive an alert on their phones, provided their bluetooth and SpiceJet app are activated. On acknowledgement through the poster, they will receive the boarding pass.
NFC enables short range communication between compatible devices whereas BLE transmits low power signals to bluetooth-enabled mobile devices nearby.
The facility would soon be available in all the airports of the country. Speaking on the occasion, SpiceJet chairman and managing Director MD Ajay Singh hoped that the app would decongest the airport by making queues shorter and drop the number of counters.
