Domestic passenger volumes were robust in June (up 20% y-o-y) with airlines flying 7.9million passengers versus 6.6million y-o-y. International passenger volumes grew 5.4% y-o-y. PLFs on domestic routes were however mixed — SpiceJet recorded highest PLF at 93% followed by GoAir (84.6%), Jet Airways (JAL) (78.5%), while Indigo at 77.9% witnessed sharp drop of 880bps y-o-y. Market shares across players remained broadly similar as in May’16 — IndiGo topped the lot with market share of 38.1%, followed by JAL (19.1%), Air India (15.2%), SpiceJet (12.7%) and Go Air (8.4%).
Brent crude, at $49.68/barrel, fell 22% y-o-y, but was flat month-on-month.
Among carriers, IndiGo reported 20% growth, SpiceJet 26.3% and JAL 8.9% y-o-y even as new players such as Vistara and Air Asia witnessed healthy growth of 32.4%. PLFs were however mixed with SpiceJet continuing to record healthy 93% (93.2% in June’15), followed by JAL (78.5% versus 77.7% y-o-y), while Indigo saw a sharp drop of 880bps from 86.6% to 77.9% y-o-y.
