Chennai: The Chennai international airport ranked fourth in India in receiving foreign tourists who visited the country on e-tourist visa in September this year.
According to an official statement, a total of 68,809 foreign tourists arrived in September 2016 on e-tourist visa as compared to 31,729 during September last year registering growth of 116.9%.
While the United Kingdom continues to occupy the top slot with 15.5%, it was followed by the US and China. E-tourist visa is available for 150 countries, which is facilitated in 16 international airports across India.
As per the government data, more than 50% of foreign tourists with e-tourist visa arrived at the international airport in New Delhi and Mumbai secured the second place with 21%.
Bengaluru and Chennai airports in the south shared the third and fourth places with 6.44% and 6.27% of inbound tourists availing facility, respectively.
