New Delhi: SpiceJet Ltd on Wednesday said it is increasing its flights to northeast India and will also start international flights from the region soon.
The airline is launching flights on the Kolkata-Silchar-Guwahati; Kolkata-Aizawl-Guwahati; and Kolkata-Gorakhpur-Delhi routes. It is launching first direct daily flights on Guwahati-Silchar, Guwahati-Aizawl, Aizawl-Kolkata, Gorakhpur-Delhi and Gorakhpur-Kolkata routes. It is starting flights on the Kolkata-Silchar-Guwahati; Kolkata-Aizawl-Guwahati and Kolkata-Gorakhpur-Delhi, Kolkata-Visakhapatnam-Kolkata flights. The flight will start from 1 November.
“There is tremendous growth taking place in the economies of small towns of the tier-II and tier-III cities,” Ajay Singh, chairman and managing director, SpiceJet, said in a statement. “The next wave of growth for the Indian aviation industry is going to come from them as these small town airports will enable the industry to explore the growth potential of these untapped markets. With the onus of operating the highest number of flights into smaller destinations in the market today we are now focusing on elevating these regional cities onto our pan-India network. We are also planning to boost our departures from Kolkata by 40% with an extensive outlook for domestic and international network from the city.”
