There is some good news for the flyers in the Diamond City. A Gurugram-headquartered airline company has submitted a proposal to launch non-scheduled flight operations from Surat in January-2017.
Official sources said private airliner Zoom Air has submitted a proposal to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) asking for operating slots at Surat airport from January-2017. The proposal has been forwarded to Surat airport director for working out the required slot for the airline.
It is believed the airline intends to launch operation between Surat and Delhi. A CRJ 200LR aircraft will be flown on Surat-Delhi sector. A couple of months ago, members of 'We Want Working Airport at Surat' (WWWAS) had urged airline owners to consider Surat as potential destination to launch their flight services. The company owners had visited the city sometime in August and they were convinced with infrastructural facilities at Surat airport and potential of air traffic.
