Campaign to save flights from bird hits

In an attempt to curb the waste menace on the airport premises, the airport authority on Saturday conducted an awareness campaign, 'Keep our City Clean, Save airport from bird hazard' near Trivandrum International Airport. A mass run and door-to-door campaign were organized in association with PRS College of Engineering and Technology. It was jointly flagged off by airport director George G Tharakan and mayor V K Prasanth from international terminal.

The airport staff and 45 National Service Scheme volunteers participated in the mass run. They also distributed pamphlets at residential area and conducted awareness sessions for the residents on bird hit at airport.
The airport is under threat of bird hits due to waste accumulated at its vicinity, especially on the Chackai-All Saints' College Junction route.
Mayor V K Prasanth spoke about the possibility of a comprehensive waste management system with biogas plant and waste disposal unit at Chackai.
